Critical Competencies Area 3 Micro ToT – September 2023

Critical Competencies for Infant-Toddler Educators Fillable Textbook Area 1

The Micro-Course Textbook for Area 1: Supporting Social-Emotional Development supports faculty and their students in understanding and implementing critical interactions with infants and toddlers that support and nurture their social-emotional development and learning. Each chapter begins with a reflection followed by a focus on child development and the educator’s role in applying the Critical Competencies, additional considerations for supporting high-needs populations and multi-language learners, and concludes with reflection on the chapter content and application.

Critical Competencies for Infant-Toddler Educators Reflective Tool

This online tool enables educators to reflect on and assess the frequency with which they demonstrate the Critical Competencies in their everyday interactions with children. Upon completion of the tool, a customized, confidential report is generated that helps educators to identify their strengths and areas for development. Reflective Tool Report A standard, aggregate report for a group of up to 25 educators’ results, to support data-driven decision-making for professional development planning, coaching interactions, and more. Reflective Tool Consultation This organizational consultative engagement includes a customized, aggregate report of all the educators’ results and a 1-hour, virtual consultation session to help the organization make data-driven decisions about where to best spend development dollars. A PDF with a high-level mapping of the Critical Competencies to organizations’/agencies’ state core knowledge and competencies is also included.

This online course offers educators the opportunity to observe, understand, and reflect on critical interactions with infants and toddlers. Educators will receive in-depth knowledge and practical examples to help bridge knowledge to practice. Feature considerations for working with high-needs population and multi-language learners.

ZERO TO THREE Critical Competencies for Infant-Toddler Educators™ Online Micro-Course, Area 1: Supporting Social-Emotional Development provides opportunities to observe, understand, and reflect on critical interactions with infants and toddlers that support and nurture their social-emotional development and learning. The course is designed for educators who work in home or center-based group settings with infants and/or toddlers. The Critical Competencies Online Micro-Course Area 1 includes 6 modules:

The ZERO TO THREE Critical Competencies for Infant-Toddler Educators™ defines the specific knowledge and skills infant-toddler educators need to be successful in supporting critical areas of development from birth to 3 years old. The 3 Critical Competencies sub-areas address the three essential areas of development for educators working with young children:

1. Social-Emotional Development
2. Cognitive Development
3. Language & Literacy Development

This micro-course covers the second area of the three essential learning and development areas. Area 2: Supporting Cognitive Development (4 modules)
